T

wo Molotov cocktails were thrown at the house of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Mardani Ali Sera in Pondok Gede, Bekasi, West Java, early Thursday by unknown assailants.

"Alhamdulillah [thank God], the police were alert and quickly arrived at my house," Mardani, who was one of the initiators of the #2019GantiPresiden (change the president in 2019) movement, said in an instant message on Thursday as reported by kompas.com. "I happened to be out of town."

Mardani claimed that people on two motorcycles had been seen casing the area around his house on Wednesday night. At dawn, the sound of breaking glass was heard. In the morning, one of the housekeepers was cleaning the garden and found one broken glass bottle and one glass bottle full of fuel.

Nothing caught fire, said Mardani, who was the chairman of Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno’s campaign team for the Jakarta gubernatorial election two years ago.

Mardani earlier admitted to exploiting the massive demonstrations, known as "action 212" against incumbent Jakarta governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama to ensure that Anies won the election. (stu)
