esidents of Gembrong Market in East Jakarta are still in the dark over financial compensation for the planned acquisition of their land to make way for the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road project.

“The value of the land is usually assessed by an independent team that will later submit the [land value] assessment to the National Land Agency [BPN] and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. So we aren’t informed about it,” Cipinang Besar Utara subdistrict head Sri Sundari said on Thursday in a statement made to kompas.com.

The project affects 789 plots of land in three community units (RW) in Cipinang Besar Utara.

Sri said the process of determining the value of the land had been delayed once before.

“[The authorities promised that] they would update us [on the value of the land] after Idul Fitri, but they have not done so. The residents are demanding that the process [of estimating the value of the land] be pushed forward.”

Sri added that residents still have certificates that held the name of the land’s previous owner. All that remained to be done, she said, was for an official to search for a record of the documents.

“[The residents] will then manage the transfer of the land ownership certificates. It isn’t a big problem, we can handle it,” Sri added. (acr)
