erman carmaker BMW has introduced its newest plug-in hybrid car, the i8 Roadster, at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2018.

Jodie O’tania, vice president of corporate communications for BMW Group Indonesia, said the i8 Roadster was the newest version of the BMW i series, which is all about BMW's electric and hybrid cars.

“We keep introducing our plug-in hybrid to the Indonesian market because the number of hybrid and electric cars keeps increasing globally. And when we first introduced our hybrid car before [the i8], the response from customers was very positive,” she said over the weekend.

Previously, BMW introduced its plug-in hybrid car, the BMW i8, for the first time to the Indonesian public in 2014, and the car has been available in the Indonesian market since 2016.

Jodie said plug-in hybrid type cars were the most suitable for the Indonesian market for now, as they were not fully electric but still combined a conventional engine system.

He said the BMW i8 Roadster was available in the market after its launching on the first day of the GIIAS on Thursday.

“We directly sell it to the customer as we also distribute the car globally,” she said. The car is sold at Rp 3.96 billion (US$274,542). The car, BMW claimed, is more environmentally friendly because it has low emissions. The BMW i8 Roadster is also equipped with BMW i Wallbox Plus, a charging box that is installed in the house of buyers. (bbn)
