T

he Indonesian men’s wrestling team is set to compete today in the freestyle category at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, seeking to clinch at least one gold medal.

The five wrestlers competing today will be: Eko Roni Saputra in the 57 kg category, Ardiansyah Darmansyah in 65 kg, Rizki Dermawan in 74 kg, Fahriansyah in 86 kg and Ronald Lombantoruan in 97 kg.

Indonesia entered six athletes into the men's freestyle competition, but Dimas Seto, who competes in the 125 kg category, will play on Monday.

Eko Roni will play in the 1/8 finals today against Charles Fernando from Sri Lanka, who ranked 18th in the same category at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan. Eko finished 9th place in the same competition.

Ardiansyah will face Borjakov Batyr from Turkmenistan in the 1/8 finals. It will be an intense match as Batyr finished 3rd in the same category at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, while Ardiansyah booked 2nd place at the 2011 South East Asian Games.

In the 74 kg, 86 kg and 97 kg categories, Indonesia will face Afghanistan, Iran and South Korea respectively. The latter two will be especially tough as Iran and South Korea came 1st and 2nd, respectively, at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. (nkn)
