T

he Indonesian downhill cycling team has just bagged two golds and a bronze medal through Tiara Andini Prastika, Nining Purwaningsih and Khoiful Mukhib. Tiara clocked in at 2 minutes and 33.056 seconds and grabbed the gold, followed by Nining Purwaningsih, who was 9.056 seconds behind Tiara and secured the bronze medal.

Khoiful Mukhib became the next athlete to secure gold by clocking in at 2 minutes and 16.687 seconds, leaving teammate Popo Ariyo Sejati, who got into an accident near the finish line.

Head coach Dadang Haries Purnomo regretted Popo’s self-inflicted accident, saying  Popo would not be able to compete in the cross-country category because of it.

“Popo was actually the second best and would be able to snatch a silver medal if he didn’t have the accident,” he said.

When asked about the achievement, Dadang acknowledged that the two golds were already in line with the team’s earlier target. Dadang acknowledged that he still expected one of the athletes to snatch another medal from the cross-country.
