Indonesian beach volleyballers Dita Juliana and Putu Dini Jasita Utami won over Vietnam 2-0 on Monday on the second day of the women’s beach volleyball qualifiers at the Jakabaring Sport City.
he Indonesian duo of Dita Juliana and Putu Dini Jasita Utami has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel after cruising past Vietnam 2-0 on Monday on the second day of the women’s beach volleyball qualifiers at the Jakabaring Sport City.
Thanks to their hard-driven spikes, the pair ended the two sets with ease; finishing the first with 21-10 in 14 minutes and the second with 21-6 in 13 minutes.
Dita and Putu now brace for an uphill battle, as they face Kazakhstan and Thailand, both seen as strong challengers for the home side.
“The reason is that they, especially Kazakhstan’s players, [are taller]. They can easily block [our smash],” Putu said after the match with Vietnam.
“Thailand is equally powerful. Tonight we are going to review their play and prepare our strategy [to face both teams],” Dita said.
Dita and Putu play in Pool D, which, aside from Indonesia, contains Thailand, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. On Sunday, the duo defeated Hong Kong 2-0. A match between Hong Kong and Thailand on Monday ended with a 2-0 victory for the latter. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan downed Thailand 2-1 on Sunday.
The Indonesian duo will face Kazakhstan on Tuesday and Thailand on Thursday. The duo currently leads Pool D with a total of 4 points, followed by Thailand in second place with 3 points and Kazakhstan in third with 2 points.
Earlier on Monday, another Indonesian women’s team, that of Desi Ratnasari and Yokebed Purari Eka, claimed victory against Timor Leste with a score of 2-0. Desi and Yokebed lead in Group C.
