PLN says 70 percent of electricity restored in Lombok

tate-owned electricity company PLN has said that 70 percent of electricity infrastructure on earthquake-hit Lombok, Bima and Sumbawa islands in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been restored.
“We have been there. Those areas are lit again. Only 50 locations [are without power],” said PLN president director Sofyan Basir in Jakarta on Monday.
Meanwhile, PLN western Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara business director Djoko R. Abumanan explained that previously the electricity infrastructure in Lombok, Bima and Sumbawa that was hit by an earlier earthquake had been fully restored.
But the 6.9 magnitude on Sunday night had caused fresh problems for the electricity infrastructure. “The electricity system in Lombok, Bima and Sumbawa is gradually recovering,” Djoko said as reported by tribunnews.com.
The electricity supplied from coal-fired power plants (PLTU) was more vulnerable to the impact of earthquakes because the plants were constructed separately from other power plants, he said, adding that this had caused delays in restoring power.
Three powerful earthquakes within 20 days in NTB killed at least 487 people, injured about 7,700 and displaced more than 410,000. The latest 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the island of Lombok on Sunday, killing at least 10 people. (bbn)
