Indonesia won the gold medal in the men’s lightweight coxed eight (8+) category on the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) Lake.
ndonesia rowers clinched their first gold medal on Friday when they won the men’s lightweight coxed eight (8+) category on the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) Lake, following China claiming nearly all the golds in Thursday’s events.
The eight Indonesia rowers finished in 6 minutes and 8 seconds, followed 4 seconds later by their Uzbekistan opponents who claimed the silver. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong, China rowers finished at 6.14 minutes to win the bronze.
“We are happy to reach the podium. We were finally able deliver a gold for our beloved Indonesia,” rower Ferdiansyah told journalists after the medal ceremony.
The seven other rowers on the winning Indonesia team are: Ali Buton, Ardi Isadi, Ihram Rio Rizki Darmawan, Jefri Ardianto, Muhad Yakin, Tanzil Hadid and Ujang Hasbulloh.
With the rowing win, Indonesia’s gold tally is now 9, maintaining its fifth position after Iran with 10 gold medals. China still topped the medal tally on Friday with 59 golds.
Earlier on Friday, another Indonesia rowing team took silver in the men’s quadruple sculls while a women’s team won bronze in the light 4 discipline.
Indonesia also won a silver and a bronze medal on the first day of the rowing finals on Thursday.
