oll operator PT Jalantol Lingkarluar Jakarta (PT JLJ) started on Wednesday a contraflow traffic test at the Kalimalang-Cikunir section of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR), which will be conducted every morning on weekdays until Oct. 3.

PT JLJ operational manager Thomas Dwiatmanto said the contraflow would be implemented along KM 47-750 until KM 45+65 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The test is being conducted to ease toll users’ commute on JORR, especially those heading from Bintara in Bekasi, West Java, to Pondok Indah in South Jakarta.

“We believe that the contraflow will reduce traffic build-up during rush hour and weekends, especially on the Cikunir Interchange in Bekasi. If the test shows significant results, we will apply it on the opposing lane until the traffic at the Cikunir Interchange returns to normal after the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road project is finished,” Thomas said in a written statement on Tuesday.

He said that drivers trying to get on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road would get stuck in traffic because of the long line caused by container trucks. The trucks are prohibited from using the toll road between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Thomas added that infrastructure projects located along the Jakarta-Cikampek corridor, such as the Cikampek II elevated highway, light rapid transit (RLT) and the Jakarta-Bandung high speed rail, also affected JORR traffic.

The Jakarta Police traffic unit will help to secure the contraflow test to make sure it will run smoothly.

Toll road users from Rorotan in East Jakarta or Bintara heading to Jati Asih, Bekasi or Pondok Indah will be directed to the contraflow lane and expected to follow the directions given by Jasa Marga officers. (ami)
