West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police arrested a French national on Monday for drug possession at Lombok International Airport.

The suspect, DF, reportedly hid 2.9 kilograms of amphetamine and ketamine as well as 850 ecstasy pills inside his luggage.

The drugs were valued at roughly Rp 1.3 billion (US$ 87,191).

According to NTB Police narcotics unit head Sr. Comr. Yus Fadilah, DF arrived at the airport at 11.45 a.m. local time using a flight from Singapore.

A customs officer, Fadilah, said he suspected the French man after the airport’s baggage scanner showed a suspicious image inside his luggage.

“We found out that DF was keeping several packages of narcotics [in] his luggage,” Fadilah told reporters on Monday.

He added that DF  was currently being interrogated at the NTB Police headquarters.

DF has officially been named a suspect. He is being charged under Article 112 of Law 35/2009 on narcotics, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
