tate-owned oil and gas holding company Pertamina has started distributing diesel fuel to badly needed public facilities like hospitals and state-owned electricity company PLN, as well as for search and rescue operations in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi.
“We are coordinating to send fuel tanks for industrial needs. We have distributed 1,500 liters to Undata hospital in Palu, 2,000 liters to the PLN's Palu office and 5,000 liters to the [local] posts of National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas),” Roby Hervindo, Pertamina's communications and CSR region VII marketing manager, said in a statement on Monday
He said hospitals needed the fuel for their electricity generators so they could offer optimal treatment to some 200 earthquake and tsunami survivors, most of who had fractures.
Roby said PLN also needed the fuel to help the company restore its electricity network to households and other customers in Palu and Donggala.
The two areas have experienced a power outage since Friday evening, when the 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit.
Roby said that Pertamina had distributed the fuel to PLN's diesel-powered plants in Pasangkayu, West Sulawesi, through Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi. Meanwhile, it was distributing the fuel through Toli-Toli to power plants in Siboang, Central Sulawesi.
“Meanwhile, to distribute the diesel fuel to power plants in Bali, we are coordinating with PLN to obtain the fuel from the nearest [Pertamina] depots in Toli-Toli, Poso and Gorontalo,” he said.
The three port cities are located on the peninsula that extends to the north-northeast of Palu.
Roby added that 20,000 liters of fuel were being transported by a search and rescue vessel from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, and another 5,000 liters was on a truck heading to Central Sulawesi. (bbn)
