The operator of Ancol Dreamland Park has put up warning signs after a swarm of jellyfish was spotted near Ancol Beach in North Jakarta.
swarm of jellyfish was spotted near Ancol Beach in North Jakarta on Friday. North Jakarta Maritime, Fisheries and Food Security Agency (KPKP) head Rita Nirmala had an explanation for the occurrence.
“The jellyfish usually appear when their food [sources] decrease,” Rita said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.
She added that extreme weather conditions were behind the decline of food sources for the jellyfish. However, the jellyfish swarm would disperse in no time, she added.
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman of Ancol Dreamland Park operator PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, Rika Lestari, said Ancol beach lifeguards had caught most of the jellyfish and moved them to Seaworld Ancol.
“They’re all alive. We are bringing them to Seaworld Ancol, because we have a jellyfish aquarium there,” she said on Sunday.
The company, Rika added, had prepared a team to provide first aid to visitors that accidentally touch the invertebrates. They had also put up warning signs near the beach telling visitors to avoid the swarm of jellyfish. (vla)
