cyclist died instantly in Central Jakarta on Sunday after being hit by a Transjakarta bus in front of the National Monument (Monas) IRTI parking lot.

The accident happened at around 7 a.m., said Central Jakarta Police traffic unit head Sr. Adj. Comr. Juang Andi.

“The bus was traveling from Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan in Gambir and hit a cyclist that was riding in the busway lane,” he said in a statement as quoted by kompas.com.

The unidentified cyclist, who was riding a blue and white-colored Pinarello bike, suffered serious injuries to the head and was killed instantly.

Police have been unable to identify the victim because he carried no forms of identification.

His body was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta.

The Transjakarta bus driver has been questioned over the incident.

The capital has experienced 44 accidents involving Transjakarta buses as of September this year, according to Jakarta Police data. They involved 59 victims, six of whom died and 11 suffered from serious injuries, while 42 sustained light injuries. (ris)
