T

he heavy rain that hit Greater Jakarta on Sunday has resulted in a massive amount of trash clogging up the Manggarai sluice gate in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Central Jakarta Water Resources Agency official Rohmat said the trash had accumulated at the sluice gate due to heavy rain in Bogor, West Java.

“The trash had accumulated in Manggarai at 2:30 a.m. on Monday,” Rohmat said as quoted by kompas.com. He added that it had amounted to around 600 cubic meters and consisted mostly of tree trunks and household waste.

As of Monday afternoon, officials from the agency had removed 26 truckloads of trash, which were taken to a temporary waste disposal site in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, before being transferred to Bantar Gebang landfill in Bekasi, West Java. (fac)
