he South Jakarta Police arrested a couple, identified only as CN, 44, and PI, 33, on Oct. 14 for allegedly stealing goods in cafes and bars located in Mega Kuningan, Jakarta.
“Their modus operandi is one of them [PI] approaches and distracts the potential victim,” South Jakarta Police criminal unit head Comr. Andi Sinjaya said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that once the potential victim was distracted, CN would steal their belongings.
During the preliminary investigation, he said, the suspects confessed that they stole to make ends meet. However, the police revealed later that the couple specialized in theft in nightclubs.
“The couple stole valuable goods such as iPhones,” Andi said.
Another suspect, identified as SS, 33, was also arrested.
“According to SS' confession, he sold the stolen goods at low prices,” he explained.
SS could face a maximum of four years in prison, while CN and PI could each face a maximum of seven years' imprisonment. (sau)
