P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is still reviewing candidates to replace Amien Sunaryadi, who has completed his term as the head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas).

“Nov. 18 should have been my last day,” Amien said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Wednesday.

SKK Migas is currently completing its work plan and budget, as well as drafting the plan of development (POD) for several oil and gas blocks, including the Masela Block and IDD Chevron, which must be approved by the SKK Migas head.

Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesman Agung Pribadi could not provide any details about the appointment, saying that "no signals" had been made yet on the new SKK Migas head.

SSK Migas spokesman Wisnu Wibawa Taher made a similar statement, that he had no clue as to who the President would appoint. When asked whether the government was facing difficulties finding a suitable candidate, he replied, “No comment.”

However, he said that the regulator could still operate normally.

SKK Migas was established under Presidential Regulation No. 9/2013 to manage upstream oil and gas exploration and production activities. In particular, it is responsible for establishing contracts with corporations to generate maximum state revenues from the sector. (bbn)
