Irish-based and Chinese-owned leaser Avolon confirmed Friday an order for 100 Airbus new generation medium-haul aircraft.

Airbus said in a statement the order for 75 A320neo and 25 A321neo single-aisle planes was the single largest by Avolon.

It takes Avolon's cumulative Airbus orders to 284 aircraft -- 240 single-aisle and 44 wide-body, including the A321neo, the A330neo and the A350 XWB.

At catalogue prices, the order would be worth around 10 billion euros ($13 billion) but large discounts are the norm for bigger orders.

Deliveries are due from 2023.

Airbus said it has won 6,200 orders from more than 100 customers for its A320neo series aircraft which faces tough competition from rival Boeing's medium-haul workhorse the 737.

Both companies have invested hugely in the new more fuel efficient planes.

HNA, owned by Chinese company Bohai, holds 70 percent of Avolon, with Japanese firm Orix Aviation Systems owning the remainder.
