lag carrier Garuda Indonesia used a year-end culinary and business diplomacy event in London, England, to promote its newly reopened Jakarta-London route to representatives of 19 noted British corporations and other institutions over the weekend.

At the event, which was jointly organized by the Indonesian embassy in London, the Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC) in London, Bank Mandiri and Garuda Indonesia and attended by Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland Rizal Sukma, Bank Mandiri European executive director I Nyoman Suarja and representatives of HSBC, Standard Chartered, Arup and the City of London, among others, the airline's president director, Ari Askhara, introduced participants to Garuda Miles Platinum and invited them to fly Garuda.

“Please fly with Garuda on any trip to Indonesia,” said Askhara.

The Jakarta-London route was restarted on Nov. 15 after it was cancelled on Oct. 30 because of a low seat occupancy rate.

Rizal expressed his appreciation of the partnerships between British corporations and Indonesia that boosted the two countries’ economic ties.

“Amid tough global challenges in 2018, the UK and Indonesia could still enhance their economic diplomacy performance because of the support of the business community,” said Rizal as quoted in an embassy press statement released on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nyoman Suarja said Bank Mandiri was ready to facilitate British businesspeople who wanted to do business in Indonesia. “The objective of Bank Mandiri was to boost the economic ties between the two countries,” he added.

While the guests enjoyed Indonesian cuisine, entertainers played traditional music from several provinces of Indonesia. (bbn)
