ekasi Population and Civil Registration Agency in West Java has announced that starting next year, it will be mandatory for students to possess child cards when they are enrolled at schools.
The agency's acting head, Jamus Rasidi, said the requirement would apply to all children under 17 years old.
"This is part of the requirements to enroll at schools. Basically, all children should have the cards before enrolling at schools," he said in Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that throughout this year, his office had prepared 10,000 cards for children, adding that 200,000 more cards would be prepared in 2019.
Separately, Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi said that apart from being a requirement to enroll for school, the card could also be beneficial for children when they wanted to open a savings account at a bank.
"It will also be useful to register with the BPJS [Social Security Management Agency], for immigration matters and other things. Basically it is needed to fulfill children's rights," he said.
To obtain the card, parents will have to register at their district offices by submitting parents' ID cards, birth certificate, family card and photographs. (fac)
