T

he eighth and final season of the hugely popular HBO series Game of Thrones has finally secured its release date on April 15, paving the way for one of the most anticipated television events of the year.

The most recently released trailer takes place in the Crypts of Winterfell, which holds the tombs of the Stark family, and features its three surviving members – Jon Snow, Arya Stark and Sansa Stark – walking through the crypts, accompanied by the whispering voices of Ned and Catelyn Stark.

The footage used in the trailer will reportedly not be featured in the actual episodes, and were apparently used simply to build momentum for the final season of the long-running series, adapted from George R. R. Martin's fantasy novels.

David Nutter, who won an Emmy in 2015 for his work on the season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, directed the 1-minute, 46-second trailer, and acclaimed GoT and Westworld composer Ramin Djawad provided the score.

The previous season 8 trailer, aired last year, featured Jon Snow, Danaerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister each walking to their fates and sitting on what look like thrones, foreshadowing the chaos to come.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere exclusively on HBO and on the HBO Go Asia/Indonesia [https://www.hbogoasia.id] streaming service on the same date as the US premiere. (ste)
