treet vendors under the newly installed Tanah Abang Skybridge clashed with Central Jakarta Public Order Agency officers (Satpol PP) as the latter attempted to raid street vendors on Thursday.
Head of Tanah Abang Satpol PP, Aries Cahyadi, said the clash started at 10 a.m. and went on for 30 minutes following street vendors’ resistance.
“The clash started when South Jakarta Satpol PP personnel were raiding the street vendors. We have been clearing the area of street vendors for two weeks in a row,” Aries said on Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.
The street vendors threw rocks at the personnel, Aries said, damaging the windows of a Satpol PP vehicle.
The agency then cooperated with the Tanah Abang Police to detain three men who allegedly incited the clash.
The police have kept the rocks and damaged car as evidence.
As of 12 p.m., the Tanah Abang Police were still seen guarding the area, with personnel deployed starting from Tanah Abang Station to the hall of Blok G at Tanah Abang Market.
Street vendors were also back to selling their commodities under the sky bridge. (ars)
