A

pit bull terrier owner who allegedly commanded his dog to attack a security guard in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, last month had been named a suspect.

“He has been named a suspect. Now we are completing the investigation documents,” Central Jakarta Police criminal investigation unit chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Tahan Marpaung said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

Tahan said the results of the investigation of the evidence and witnesses’ testimonies indicated that the dog’s owner, identified as Andry, allegedly commanded his dog to attack security guard Suhermawan.

Seven witnesses questioned by the police include another security guard who recorded the incident, and an expert from the Jakarta Sea and Farming Food Resilience Agency (KPKP).

“The evidence included, among others, the dog and the victim’s medical check report,” Marpaung said.

Andry is now facing charges under Article 335 of the Crime Code on unpleasant action, and Article 360 of the Criminal Code on negligence causing injury to other people, which carries a maximum punishment of five years imprisonment.

The incident occurred on Dec. 13, when Andry took his pit bull terrier, which was not on a leash, for a walk around his house in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta. The housing complex security guard, Suhermawan, told Andry he needed to have his dog on a leash because it could scare other residents.

Andry allegedly took offense and commanded the dog to attack Suhermawan. The security guard, who sustained an injury, then reported Andry to the Central Jakarta Police on Dec. 18, 2018. (gis)
