Free Wi-Fi is now available in 150 public spots, including subdistrict offices, houses of worship and community halls, in Depok, West Java.
he Depok Information and Communications Agency in West Java has said that the public are now able to access free Wi-Fi in 150 spots throughout the city.
“[Free Wi-Fi] aims to allow society to access public information. We have installed [Wi-Fi] in 150 spots. This year, we will install another 50,” agency head Sidik Mulyono said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
The Wi-Fi-enabled spots include subdistrict offices, houses of worship, community halls and several other public facilities.
Sidik said his side was conducting a survey to identify other viable spots.
“We have yet to decide [the future spots]. We will cooperate with management teams that work with fiber optic, [the cables of] which were installed from Jl. Margonda to Jl. Simpang Ramanda,” he said, adding that Jl. Simpang Ramanda was one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city.
Residents can request free Wi-Fi for their subdistrict by submitting an official letter to the agency, but Sidik said the agency would ultimately determine where to introduce the technology based on a study. (sau)
