ity-owned PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta, which will operate the country’s first-ever subway in the country, has allocated room in five stations for a total of 16 micro, small and medium enterprise (UMKM) outlets, as supporting facilities for the upcoming MRT service in the capital city.
"This is a form of commitment from MRT to side with not only established retail shops but also with UMKM," MRT director of business development and support Ghamal Peris said in a press statement on Thursday.
The five stations are Lebak Bulus station with six outlets, Fatmawati Station also with six outlets, Dukuh Atas with two outlets and Haji Nawi and Blok A stations, both with one outlet each.
The 16 outlets will comprise eight food outlets, five fashion outlets and three handcraft shops.
The company is collaborating with the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) to select the enterprises chosen as vendors in the stations. The selected enterprises will be finalized on Feb. 18 so they can open for business concurrently with the official launch of the MRT in March.
"Bekraf welcomes the initiative of having UMKM in MRT stations as a part of a historic change for residents," Bekraf marketing division deputy head Joshua Puji Mulia Simandjuntak said.
Among the criteria the UMKM businesses must fulfil are being ready to open their outlets from 5 a.m. and having their stall categorized as either an outlet for food, fashion or handcrafts. (Mai)
