fire has razed a facility owned and operated by PT Pertamina EP (PEP), the upstream subsidiary of state-owned energy holding company Pertamina, in Indramayu, West Java, near the Balongan refinery.
Pertamina corporate secretary Syahrial Mukhtar confirmed the incident, saying the fire had originated from a boiler facility that supplies gas to the refinery at 9:40 a.m. on Monday and had been extinguished within 20 minutes.
“I can assure you that the Balongan refinery is safe and the operation isn’t disrupted. We’ve found no casualties, and currently we are studying the cause of the fire,” he said four hours after the incident.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s oil and gas director general, Djoko Siswanto, concurred that the incident would not hamper work at the Balongan refinery.
“[The operation of the refinery] won’t be disrupted by the fire, nor will the lifting process,” he said.
The local fire department reportedly deployed about 10 fire trucks to fight the fire and was helped in the effort by military and police personnel as well as Pertamina workers. (bbn)
