alibaru subdistrict head AH, 52, was arrested on Feb. 14 in Cilodong District, Depok, West Java after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting illegal levies in exchange for a land purchase certificate (AJB) signature.

“Depok Police have looked into information that someone from the subdistrict office has been charging illegal levies,” Depok Police chief Sr. Comr. Didik Sugiarto said on Sunday, tempo.co reported.

When the Depok Police’s illegal levy eradication task force went to the office, it reportedly witnessed AH asking someone to pay him in exchange for his signature on an AJB.

During the operation, the police confiscated Rp 5 million (US$353), an AJB and other documents.

Didik said the police were questioning four witnesses in connection to the case.

“We will look at the result of our investigation before we decide on the next step. So far, [we found that] he [AH] worked alone,” Didik said.

He added that AH would be charged under Article 12 of Law No. 20/2001 on corruption eradication.(ami)
