akarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s decision to reshuffle 1,125 city officials on Monday has been met with questions and confusion, with employees claiming they had received no prior notice of their reassignment.
Anies said the move had been necessary to improve the administration’s performance and combat corruption practices, among other reasons.
Among the reshuffled officials is former Pancoran district head Herry Simpey Gunara, who was inaugurated as South Jakarta’s head of governance on Monday but did not know why he had been moved to a new job.
"I don’t know what I did wrong and there was no warning […] I thought I had been doing a good job [as Pancoran district head],” Herry told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Pangestu Aji, the new secretary of Taman Sari district in West Jakarta, previously served as Meruya Utara subdistrict head. He said he had been promised a promotion last year but did not know the details of his new position until Monday.
“I got an inauguration invitation from the governor last week, but I didn’t know what position I should serve until Monday,” Pangestu said.
Anies' shake-up, which comprises 15 officials of the second highest echelon II level, 274 of echelon III and 836 of echelon IV officials, is one of the most significant reorganizations in the Jakarta administration to date. This is the fourth time he has ordered a massive overhaul during his term.
