ighty-five people from 29 different families in Kedaung Kali Angke, Cengkareng, West Jakarta took refuge because of heavy rain that led to flooding on Tuesday, but have returned to their homes.
Jakarta Communication, Information and Statistics Agency head Atika Nur Rahmania said on Wednesday that 74 people from 25 families were residents of community unit (RW) 002 while 11 people from four families were residents of RW 004.
Atika said the families had returned to their homes after workers from the Water Resources Agency and the Fire and Rescue Agency had finished pumping out the flood water.
“They’ve returned home. They only took refuge while waiting for the water to be pumped out,” Atika said as quoted by kompas.com.
Previously, it was reported that up to 143 neighborhood units (RT) in West Jakarta and North Jakarta were flooded after the heavy rain on Tuesday.
The floods hit 30 subdistricts of North Jakarta and West Jakarta with the water depth varying from 10 to 80 centimeters. The flooding occurred at around 6 a.m. and started to recede at different times in each area throughout the day.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan downplayed the potential for flooding after the heavy rain on Tuesday morning. (ami)
