he Jakarta administration is aiming to acquire the remaining plot of land for the normalization of the Ciliwung River by the end of this year to make way for flood mitigation programs.
“The most important [progress] is that the land acquisition continues,” Jakarta Water Resources Agency acting head Yusmada Faizal said on Monday at City Hall as reported by kompas.com.
“Hopefully, it will be completed this year.”
He added that the completion of the land acquisition would enable the Ciliwung Cisadane Flood Control Office to continue the river naturalization program, which is centered on the eastern part of the capital, covering Cipinang Melayu and Bidara Cina in East Jakarta.
Currently, only a 16-kilometer stretch of the river has been normalized, while the remaining 17 km, which run from Jl. TB Simatupang to the Manggarai sluice gate, are impeding the land acquisition process.
The program came to a halt in 2017, when the administration temporarily discontinued the land acquisition process. (fac)
