A

total of 23 senior high school students from two schools in Ciamis, West Java, decided to sleep in classrooms before taking the computer-based national exams (UNBK) on Monday because of the long hours they have to travel from home.

The trip from their houses to the national exams location takes about two hours.

Three private schools were to hold the national exams in the same location: Informatika senior high school, Riyadul Hidayah Al Munawaroh senior high school and Cikanyere Terpadu senior high school. The exams were held in the Informatika school.

The Informatika school located in Ciamis district, while Riyadul Hidayah Al Munawaroh school and Cikanyere Terpadu are located in Jatinegara district.

“The two schools [other than the Informatika school] have yet to get National Student Identification Numbers, so their Dapodik [the Education Ministry’s basic data center information] is registered in the Informatika school,” the head teacher of the Informatika school, Asep Dhana, said on Monday on the sidelines of the exams.

“The fare is quite expensive for a round trip. Therefore, the students stayed at our school,” he said.

To accommodate the students, Informatika school provided several classrooms for them.

Asep explained that the Riyadul Hidayah Al Munawaroh and Cikanyere Terpadu students had already stayed in the Informatika's classrooms because they were also registered as santri (Islamic boarding school students) there.

“They are santri. During the UNBK simulation, they also stayed overnight here,” Asep said, kompas.com reported.

Hasan Basri, 18, one of the students who slept at Informatika, said he forced himself to stay focused on studying ahead of the national exams.

“I study as usual at night together with friends. To eat, we cook together,” he said. (sau/iwa)
