A

man identified as Sumardin, 26, has died after being beaten by a group of men after he allegedly sexually assaulted the younger sister of two of the perpetrators.

The resident of Karang Berombak subdistrict in West Medan, North Sumatra, died after being admitted to Imelda hospital in Medan on Wednesday, West Medan Police chief Comr. Choky S. Meliala said.

Police have arrested two suspects, identified only as as DR, 23, and BD, 22, while another member of the gang, identified only as ZH, 35 is still at large. Choky said all three suspects were related.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the assault occurred following the victim’s alleged misconduct. Two of the suspects told police that Sumardin groped the breast of the little sister of ZH and DR.

“They became enraged after their little sister was groped by the victim. They approached the victim and beat him until he was unconscious. The victim was admitted to hospital where he died from his injuries,” Choky told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

He said the police were still investigating the case and were pursuing ZH, whose whereabouts are still unknown. (ami)
