he members of Jakarta-based mass organizations supporting the Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin pair in the presidential race have said they will join hands to create a peaceful election by preventing intimidation on voting day.
Among the groups are the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR), Pancasila Youth (PP), Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) Barisan Ansor Serbaguna (Banser) and Menteng Alumni 64 for Jokowi.
On Friday, the groups launched the #NyoblosHepi2019 ( HappyVoting2019 ) hashtag for their social media campaign.
“A safe Jakarta where people can freely exercise their democratic right to vote on April 17 is the dream of everyone,” Irlan Suud of Menteng Alumni 65 for Jokowi said.
The groups, however, stressed that the job to secure the general election was in the hands of the National Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The movement was formed amid fears that a number of activities held by the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno camp could lead to voter intimidation, a concern dismissed by officials from the Prabowo camp.
Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, who heads the Jokowi campaign in the capital, said the groups would provide support particularly in areas that have many militant Prabowo-Sandiaga supporters, such as South and East Jakarta.
