priest called on people to restore peace during a Good Friday service in front of thousands of Catholics in East Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara, two days after the country held legislative and presidential elections.
Reverend Eduardus Tanis, who led the White Thursday and Good Friday services in the Santo Arnoldus-Josef Waelengga Parish Church, said peace should be restored following the general election.
"The general election was held on Wednesday. Let's now focus on the White Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday celebrations. Let's go back to restoring peace amid the differences in our choices for executive leaders and representatives of the legislative bodies," he said.

"My husband and I have exercised our rights as citizens by casting ballots to choose the leaders of Indonesia for the next five years. Now, as part of the Catholic community, we are participating in the Easter celebrations," parish member Maria Daflora Echo, told The Jakarta Post on Friday. (ars)
