earing up for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines that will take place in November and December, the Indonesian tennis team selected 16 athletes who are set to train at the Jakarta national training center starting May 20.

Among those athletes are 2018 Asian Games gold medalists Christopher Rungkat and Aldila Sutjiadi and junior players Priska Madelyn Nugroho and Janice Tjen, the Indonesian Tennis Federation (Pelti) announced on Wednesday.

The Youth and Sports Ministry has granted the federation around Rp 9 billion (US$622,492) for the training center fund this year. The figure is bigger than what the federation received for the Asian Games’ preparations last year, which was approximately Rp 5 billion.

For the upcoming SEA Games, the team will likely rely on duo Christopher and Aldila to win the gold medal in mixed doubles, following their successful performance in the Asiad.

In the meantime, Indonesian hopefuls Aldila, Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies are competing at the Singapore ITF Women’s 25K. Beatrice reached the quarterfinals after stunning the third seeded Rutuja Bhosale of India 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday.

She will face another Indian player, eighth seeded Riya Bhatia, in the quarters.

Unfortunately, Jessy failed to repeat her success in the first round, where she stunned sixth seeded Eudice Chong of Hong Kong. Jessy surrendered to Thailand’s Chompoothip Jandakate 7-5, 4-6, 4-6 in Thursday's showdown.

In the doubles’ category, Jessy who partners with Beatrice, secured a semifinal ticket after beating Catherine Harrison of the United States and Andreea Ghitescu of Romania 6-3 and 6-4.

Aldila, who failed to move forward after a first round loss in the singles category, managed to follow Jessy and Bea in the doubles. Partnering with New Zealand’s Paige Hourigan, they outclassed Emily Appleton of England and Eudice Chong of Hong Kong 6-4 and 6-2.
