The service starts on Wednesday night with the addition of five temporary buses to serve people going to the Pulo Gebang bus station in East Jakarta for the Idul Fitri exodus, said Agung Wicaksono, the president director of the city-owned bus company, PT Transjakarta.

The new five buses are to run between South Jakarta’s Lebak Bulus bus station and Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta’s Kampung Rambutan bus station and Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta’s Pinang Ranti bus station and Pulo Gebang, North Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok bus station and Pulo Gebang  and East Jakarta’s Pulogadung bus station and Pulo Gebang. The additional buses are to operate until June 12.

"The number of buses for the Idul Fitri exodus is to be increased, while the number during the holidays [on June 5 and 6] is to be reduced," he said in Central Jakarta on Tuesday without mentioning the figure.

The Transportation Ministry’s research body estimated that 14.9 million residents of Greater Jakarta, 44.1 percent of the total population of the area, would join the holiday exodus to their home towns.

The 2019 exodus started on Friday, five days prior to Idul Fitri, and return traffic was expected to reach its peak on June 9. Most would travel on roads.

Aside from the additional buses, Agung said Transjakarta would be operating as usual. However, he said some adjustments would be made to its hours of operation on the eve of Idul Fitri, when people celebrate by lighting firecrackers and roaming the streets in convoys.
