A

middle-aged man named Kosasih was found dead at the bottom of a 15-meter-deep old well located inside the land compound of the development project of the International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII) in Cisalak subdistrict, Sukmajaya district in Depok, West Java on Sunday.

Kosasih is thought to have accidentally slipped into the old well when he was looking for banana leaves on the land plot.

Sukmajaya police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. IGN Bronet said Kosasih and his wife left their house at around 10 a.m. on Sunday to search for banana leaves.

“Kosasih searched for leaves by himself while his wife waited in another location. After waiting until the evening, his wife then went looking for him and eventually came across an old well, at the bottom of which she discovered her lifeless husband,” said Bronet.

Bronet said the police were currently coordinating with the local fire and rescue department in Depok to recover Kosasih’s body from the well.

“After the body is recovered, the family will then take the body to his house in Bojong village, Sukmajaya, Depok,” said Bronet.

As one of the national strategic projects, the construction of the UIII campus was officially launched by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in June 2018. The construction is estimated to cost Rp 3.5 trillion and is projected to finish in four years' time. (bry)
