Three people have been killed and two others injured on Sunday when they were hit by rocks that fell from the cliff of the Salak Beach Waterfall in Batang Serangan, Langkat regency, North Sumatra .

The three fatalities have been identified as Medan residents Irham Efendi Lubis, 38, Raidah, 37, and Rahel Qory, 9.

“They were underwater when the rocks fell on them from the cliff above them,” Langkat Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Arnold Hasibuan said on Sunday.

“The victims  were positioned right below the falling rocks, so they did not have any time to flee,” he added.

Arnold said the accident happened at 1:20 p.m., when the waterfall was packed with visitors.
