n the sea of talented tennis players on the women's tour, the name Hsieh Su-Wei stands out not only because she has won multiple grand slams during her career but because of her unorthodox play.

Dubbed one of the trickiest players on the tour, the 33-yearold Taiwanese is famously known for her magic touch on the court as she likes to play a lot of slices and drop shots.

“My father is the one who taught me all that stuff because he likes me to play slice, spin, flats and lobs. Even now I don’t practice all of these skills, but it just happens like that on the court,” Hsieh told

in a written interview assisted by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) team during the Wimbledon Media Day on Saturday.

She has revived her singles career in the past two years. She started the 2018 season 103rd in the world rankings but stole the spotlight at the Australian Open that year by defeating Garbine Muguruza and Agnieszka Radwanska before losing to Angelique Kerber in the fourth round after an intense three-set battle.

She later reached the fourth round of Wimbledon after beating Simona Halep in the third round. Hsieh lifted her third career singles title in Hiroshima in 2018 after winning the HanaCupid Japan Women’s Open and closed the 2018 season by climbing to 28th in the world rank.

Simona Halep, whom Hsieh defeated at last year's Wimbledon, said the way Hsieh played was hard to describe while Petra Kvitova, who tasted Hsieh's resistance during the semifinal of this year's Dubai Open, claimed that her opponent’s style was “unique, that is for sure”.
