fire broke out in a densely populated area along Jl. Cipinang Raya 1, Jatinegara district, East Jakarta on Saturday morning, burning at least 30 houses and affecting hundreds of residents.
“We received a report at 4:54 a.m.,” the head of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Office, Gatot Sulaiman, said on Saturday as reported by kompas.com.
A total of 18 fire trucks and 90 firefighters were deployed to the scene to help put out the flames.

South Cipinang Besar subdistrict head Parida said the fire apparently started in one of the houses in the area at about 4:50 a.m.
“The fire then spread quickly to other houses near to it,” Parida said on Saturday.
Parida said the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire at about 5:30 a.m.
The cause of the blaze was still unknown, but Parida said the incident had caused about Rp 1.8 billion (US$128,000) in losses. (bry)
