The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has again organized the Journalist Visit Program (JVP), which invited journalists from countries in Africa and the Pacific. This year, a total of 14 journalists from the Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Senegal, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Tuvalu joined the JVP, which has been organized by the ministry for more than a decade now.
Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara met with the JVP participants in Jakarta on Monday.
“I hope through this program you will get a real experience of Indonesia [...] the people, culture, the view and the voice, and witness how we view the world,” Retno told the participants. Jakarta, Yogyakarta and West Papua were included in their itinerary.
The participants represented a variety of media, from print media to electronic and online and social media, in their home countries. They also represented media with many subscribers and a large influence. Their stories and experiences are expected to help the government of Indonesia in promoting global cooperation in the sectors of development, infrastructure, transportation and creative industry, as is the focus of this year’s JVP program.
Minister Retno told the journalists about Indonesia’s contribution to global politics, the global economy and environmental conservation. She also told the journalists about the efforts pursued by Indonesia to strengthen economic relations with nontraditional markets in Africa and the Pacific. Such efforts were pursued by organizing the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in 2018 and it will be followed by the Indonesia-Africa Infrastructure Dialogue (IAID) in August, and the Pacific Exposition 2019 in Auckland, New Zealand, which will focus on trade, investment and tourism.
