draft of a long-waited regulation on the acceleration of electric vehicle development is ready to be approved by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, an official says.

Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) head Hammam Riza said the new rule would be in the form of a presidential regulation (Perpres) on the acceleration of battery-electric vehicle development.

“[The draft] has been put on the President’s desk. Insya Allah (God willing), he will sign it soon,” Hammam said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.

He said the final draft of the Perpress had been discussed in a number of ministries, including the Industry Ministry, the Transportation Ministry and the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.

“Hopefully there will be no more revisions,” Hammam said, adding that the draft also mentioned the role of the BPPT in research and development, as well as the implementation of electric vehicle development.

Several articles in the draft outlined the cooperation required that would involve a number of parties to support the development of the vehicle, he said.

“Article 7 of the draft rules that the central government, regional governments and industries could cooperate to carry out research for the development and innovation of electric vehicle technology,” Hammam added.

Meanwhile, Article 6 of the draft, for example, required an electric vehicle company to develop factories for the vehicles and the components in Indonesia to encourage the acceleration of the development of the vehicles. (bbn)
