During the party’s national congress in Bali on Saturday, Megawati announced the lineup for the party’s central executive board (DPP) for the 2019-2024 period.
hile the dust of the 2019 election has just settled, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is already eyeing more wins in future elections, with its chief patron Megawati Soekarnoputri deciding to keep her winning team for another term. The party won the last two general elections in 2014 and 2019.
During the party’s national congress in Bali on Saturday, Megawati announced the lineup for the party’s central executive board (DPP) for the 2019-2024 period, comprising mostly the same names. She was reappointed as the party’s chairwoman for the next five years on Thursday night, making her the longest-serving chairperson of any political party in the country.
The management structure also did not see many changes, still comprising 27 posts that were mostly held by the same people for the last five years.
Six new names made it into the lineup, including Surabaya Mayor Tri “Risma” Rismaharini, who serves as the party’s executive overseeing cultural affairs, and Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, who oversees law, human rights and regulatory affairs.
Megawati’s children, Puan Maharani and Prananda Prabowo, still hold their old posts as the party’s central executive chairperson for politics and security as well as PDI-P creative economy division head, respectively.
PDI-P executives previously said they had expected a discussion on the establishment of new posts, namely chief executive and deputy chairman, with Puan and Prananda reportedly being the strongest candidates to assume the roles.
“I think it won’t be good [for the party] if [the board] undergoes a massive shakeup. We’re currently in a phase where we need to work fast,” Megawati said on Saturday.
