T

wo separate fires broke out early on Tuesday morning in the capital, leading authorities to deploy dozens of fire trucks and personnel to put out the flames.

A fire struck a car showroom on Jl. Hasyim Ashari in Gambir, Central Jakarta, while another blaze swept through four houses on Jl. Buluh Perindu Raya in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

Eight fire trucks were deployed to put out the fire at the car showroom in Gambir shortly after midnight. The flames were extinguished not long afterward, tribunnews.com has reported.

There has been no report yet on the loss caused by the fire.

Meanwhile, 12 fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the fire at four houses in Duren Sawit. According to the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPDB) the fire first started at 3 a.m.

The authorities were able to put out the fire at around 4:30 a.m., East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency operational head Gatot Sulaeman said.

“We suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit. Also, one of the renters of the house owned chemical substances,” Gatot said as quoted by kompas.com.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

The BPBD recorded that short circuits were the major cause of fires hitting areas in Jakarta this year, as 677 of 1,102 fire incidents recorded in the capital from Jan. 1 to Aug. 5 were caused by short circuits. (gis/afr)
