The Industry Ministry projects that the food and beverage (F&B) industry will grow above 9 percent in 2019, far above the country’s economic growth target of about 5 percent
The food and beverage franchise sector has been mushrooming across the country in recent years as more people turn to famous brands that have already established a name for themselves.
Thanks to this trend, popular drinks such as boba and Thai tea, which were previously only found in shopping malls, are now available on street corners across large cities.
Daud Rizky was one of some 20,000 people who attended to Franchise and Licensing Expo Indonesia (FLEI) in Jakarta on Friday to explore the opportunity of tapping into a food and beverages franchise. The 25-year-old came looking for a boba tea brand that he could develop.
He said most boba tea franchisers charge Rp 50 million (US$3,562) to Rp 100 million for a license to operate the brand, a booth and equipment. He added that the franchisers he had spoken to promised he could break even in just five to six months.
“I am looking at the food and beverage sector as the demand continues to rise. There is always a demand for snacks and drinks,” Daud said, adding that he would want to become a full-time outlet owner once the business has been established.
