hinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian has said that China's relations with Indonesia have experienced great progress thanks to mutual trust, deep cooperation and expanded exchanges in various fields.

He said the existing comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia was moving steadily forward.

"The China-Indonesia relationship has witnessed great progress, with strengthened political mutual trust, deepened practical cooperation and extended exchanges in various areas,” he said during a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at Mulia Hotel in Jakarta on Thursday evening.

In recent years, the two countries have enjoyed frequent high-level exchanges, with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo having visited China five times and Chinese President Xi Jinping visiting Indonesia twice. The two leaders also met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka in June.

Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said the country’s remarkable economic growth had contributed to the region's economy as well as the global economy.

As a guest of honor at Thursday evening’s event, he said Indonesia was committed to deepening bilateral cooperation by utilizing Indonesia’s Global Maritime Fulcrum (GMF) and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Indonesia is among the last countries to finally have some sort of agreement with China under the BRI framework, a multinational program to revive ancient routes connecting Asia and Europe, which was first launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazakhstan and Jakarta in 2013.
