easoned telecommunications player Rudiantara has been appointed deputy president commissioner and independent commissioner of top nickel miner PT Vale Indonesia.

Rudiantara, who previously served as communications and information technology minister in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s first term Cabinet, is slated to hold the positions from 2020 to 2023 after a shareholders meeting on Wednesday.

“We will meet the regulatory requirements related to changing the board of commissioners,” wrote Vale in a shareholder note.

The deputy president commissioner and the independent commissioner position was previously held by economist Mahendra Siregar.

The note says that Rudiantara will be a fresh face on the board as shareholders voted to reelect all previous commissioners, except Mahendra.

A business manager by training, Rudiantara built his career in the telecommunications industry having worked for each of Indonesia’s top three telcos, namely state telecommunication firm Telkomsel, telco firm XL Axiata and Indosat Ooredoo. He also served stints in other industries such as cement and electricity, when he assumed the vice president director post in state electricity firm PLN in 2008.
