S

upreme Audit Agency (BPK) chief Agung Firman Sampurna has been appointed the new chief of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for the 2020-2024 tenure, replacing Gen. (ret) Wiranto, former coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister.

Agung, who was the sole candidate in the election, received the support of 23 regional members. In his first speech as PBSI chief, Agung praised Wiranto for propelling the sport to where it stands right now, deemed among the world’s best.

“We were honored to have witnessed Pak Wiranto bring the sport to its position right now through hard works and dedication,” Agung said Friday as quoted on badmintonindonesia.org

He vowed to follow the same path of hard work and dedication and will bring the best elements of the sport to its management to face future challenges.

“I will use the first 30 days to form the best team to help me navigate the ship. We are aiming to make a quantum leap for the sport and for the sake of our country.”

Agung, who is the son of senior Golkar Party politician Kahar Muzakir, started his career as a bureaucrat at Musi Banyuasin regency in South Sumatra. He was also appointed a member of the PBSI’s South Sumatra chapter’s management at that time.
