apid changes and disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have forced businesses to adapt swiftly. Consumer goods company Procter and Gamble (P&G) Indonesia is no exception.
The local arm of the United States-based consumer goods firm has prepared several strategies that focus not only on business survival but also on the health and safety of its employees, the availability of products amid supply chain disruptions and the pandemic’s impact on communities.
The Jakarta Post’s Prima Wirayani and Riska Rahman interviewed P&G Indonesia president director LV Vaidyanathan on Sept. 23 to learn more about the strategies that the company has implemented to adapt to the quickly shifting world dynamic. The following are excerpts from the interview.
Question: How has P&G Indonesia altered its strategies to cope with the pandemic?
Answer: The moment the pandemic hit us, sometime in early March, we decided to work on three strategies. The first was to ensure the health and safety of our employees as our main priority. We have more than 1,000 employees in Indonesia that work for P&G and more than 10,000 employees of our partners and suppliers. We try to ensure health and safety at each location, and I’m happy to say that we have been very successful at keeping to the highest level of safety standards.
The second priority is to serve our consumers and customers during these times. Consumers are at risk of not getting the products they love because of supply chain disruptions.
We make sure that our products are available. That’s why production has been on continuously since the beginning of the pandemic, and we also make sure that packages are shipped. We’ve also been working with our customers and distributor partners to ensure that our products are available to consumers without any disruptions, and we’ve been successful on that front, too.
