US Secretary of State Antony Blinken voiced alarm Thursday at a rise of Arab-Jewish violence inside Israel, which comes alongside clashes with Palestinian militants Hamas.

"We're also deeply concerned about the violence in the streets of Israel," Blinken said.

He said that Muslims feasting for Eid al-Fitr and Jews marking Shavuot this week "deserve to take part in celebrations without fear of violence."

"We believe that Israelis and Palestinians deserve equal measures of freedom, security, dignity and prosperity," Blinken told a joint news conference with Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne.

Blinken, who spoke Wednesday both with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, renewed his call for an end to spiraling unrest.

The United States is seeking "an end to the violence which continues to claim the lives of innocent children, women and men," Blinken said.

"We've been very clear that rocket attacks must cease," he said of the fire into Israel by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip, which has triggered massive air attacks.
