ith employers looking to hire new staff in Indonesia’s recovering economy, job opportunities are springing up in various areas.

According to online employment marketplace JobStreet.com, the first quarter of 2021 has seen a particularly large year-on-year (yoy) increase in vacancies for management and human resource positions, as well as in the following sectors: medical services, transportation, and logistics, general and wholesale trade, food and beverages.

Vacancies in information and communications technology (ICT), consumer goods and retail have also seen a marked increase. The website cites the economic recovery as the cause of the gains in vacancies and notes the importance of containing the coronavirus pandemic.

“The increased vaccine availability has brought us closer to normalcy. That is proven by the average 31 percent yearly increase of job vacancies in each month of 2021,” Faridah Lim, country manager of JobStreet Indonesia, said at an online press conference held Monday.

The website has found that 52 percent of Indonesian workers were laid off or had their working hours reduced during the pandemic, with the young and non-college-educated workers particularly affected.

JobStreet notes some discrepancies between the jobs on offer and those sought after. Tech jobs, such as digital marketing and web designer, are among the positions most coveted by users. Retail and sales positions are also in high demand among applicants.
